Intellasia

Why is the Vietnamese press important?
Most of the information brought to you by Intellasia is from the Vietnamese-language press. The English-language press is also important but is a secondary source, dependent on the native-tongue media to set the agenda.

Contrary to belief by many, the domestic press does provide rich and diverse coverage of what is happening in Vietnam. While it is beyond doubt that the national media in Vietnam is subject to self-censorship as well as official controls, significant and reasonably balanced reporting is provided. Blocs within government often argue and plead their case in the pages of the media.

An emerging country
As Vietnam begins to integrate with the global market, many changes–for better or worse– are already evident. Local media, with its experience in dealing with the party, government and bureaucracy, communicates in a way that escapes the foreign media.
